Brewing Guides

Below are some basic recipes outlining what we found produced the best cup with this coffee, however we encourage each home brewer to experiment and modify these recipes to suite their own tastes.

Espresso

Brewing coffee as espresso offers a unique and concentrated experience. The high-pressure extraction results in a small, intense shot with a rich, syrupy body, complex flavors, and a distinctive crema. Espresso serves as a versatile base for a variety of milk-based drinks like lattes and cappuccinos, allowing for creative customization. The quick brewing time and precise control over variables like grind size and tamping pressure also make espresso a rewarding and engaging process for coffee enthusiasts.

Coffee: 17g
Grind: Fine (Note: If you don't have a grinder specifically for espresso, go as fine as you possibly can)
Water: 35g
Total Brew Time: 27-30 seconds
Yields appx. 1.25 ounces (1 double shot of espresso)

Prep
Ensure that you have a clean and dry portafilter. Distribute the ground coffee evenly in the portafilter basket. You will want to weigh your ground coffee to get 18g. Using your espresso tamping tool, tamp straight down with approximately 30lbs of pressure leaving a flat and even bed of coffee in the portafilter.

Brew
Review your brew recipe, pull your shot of espresso, while weighing the output of coffee. You will want to stop your shot when you are about 3 grams short of the desired output. Adjust grind finer/coarser to increase/decrease brew time. Results will vary due to machine/grinder differences. Explore taste results at +/- 3 seconds in relation to the recipe time to find the best taste at home.
