Our Nitro Canned Cold Brew

Hermanas Gutiérrez Valverde
At Fulcrum we value relationships and stories. We know our farmers, our farmers know us. Blas Alfaro, our VP of Coffee, did exactly that when picking where to source our beans from for this cold brew blend. Three sisters from the Tarrazu region of Costa Rica have dedicated their lives to taking over the coffee plantation that generations before them started. Daniela Gutiérrez Valverde, a millennial coffee farmer, is from the farm where we sourced the beans from. She attended the Instituto Tecnologica de Costa Rica, a university specializing in engineering and advanced science and research, and earned her degree in Industrial Engineering before realizing that she wanted to go back to work with her father on their family farm.
Daniela explained that her family and their farm went through some hardships in 2016 when coffee prices dropped and it became very difficult to sell their crop. After deciding to invest more in microlots and other specialized coffee varieties, Daniela knew her passion was working with her father on their farm. Microlots are special lots of coffee, selected for their high quality and limited supply. Compared to commercially grown coffee, coffee grown on microlots can be sold for much higher price points. Their mill is now 20 acres big, a large plot of land to own in Costa Rica, and 70% of the land is used for farming microlots.
Daniela’s dream is to one day roast her own coffee, the coffee she grows, and open a coffee shop in Costa Rica, where she lives. She told us that she hopes to sell and educate people in her country about ‘good coffee’ grown in their country. We are grateful to know and be able to support farmers and families like Daniela’s.
